English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Why should I study an ESOL course?

Our ESOL courses are aimed at those who are not native English speakers and need formal qualifications or support with speaking, reading, writing and understanding English.

Our ESOL courses will give you more chance of progressing to a full-time college course, degree-level study or employment.

What jobs can I get in this area?

Our ESOL courses are designed to help you read, write, speak and understand English. They will support you with gaining employment and progression to a further college or university course.

How are the courses taught?

Our ESOL courses are mostly taught part-time on campus, with some full-time intensive courses being taught throughout the year. The courses entail speaking, reading and writing practice.

Pegah Amiri - Level 5 ESOL

“Studying an ESOL course didn’t only improve my English, but it also motivated me to think more about what I wanted to do next, which I discovered was Civil Engineering. The ESOL course gave me the confidence to apply to university.  I now have a conditional offer of a place at Heriot Watt and an unconditional place at The University of Strathclyde.  I am very excited for my future.”
