Intro to the course:

The National 5 is designed for those who have a reasonable level of English. The aim of the course is to provide students with a good understanding of the English language for speaking, listening and reading. It is to aid progression to a higher level ESOL course and/or employment.

Who is the course for?

This course is designed for those who have a reasonable level of English who wish to continue to develop their language skills.

What will I study?

In each class you will practise the four key English language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking using appropriate English language. 

Next step course options

Access to further college courses will be greatly increased by completing this course as you will have spent time developing reading, writing, speaking listening and academic skills.

How will I be assessed?

External SQA National exam.

Why should I choose this course?

This course will provide you with a range of speaking, listening and writing skills required to work and study in the UK. It is designed as a course to aid progression to further study or employment, for those with a reasonable understanding and knowledge of the English language. 

Where can this course lead?

This course will prepare you for employment and further study. 

What are the entry requirements?

Entry to this course is subject to one or more of the following:

• National 4 ESOL qualification

• a good understanding of reading, writing, speaking and listening

• course entry may be subject to interview

What are the interview arrangements?

Interview on campus with lecturing team, including completion of a level placement test.
