Intro to the course:

This course builds on your previous skills, qualifications and experience, and develops creative skills and artistic abilities. You'll learn advanced hairdressing techniques, develop barbering skills and produce portfolios. You'll also learn about social media and marketing, and undertake work placements.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for qualified hairdressers who want to progress their careers.

What will I study?

You'll build and expand your existing skills and knowledge, and design and create hairdressing styles based on current fashion. You'll develop a deeper understanding of hair loss and implications of conditions and how to treat this (invaluable in today's market). You'll learn how to to showcase your work. You'll learn through realistic working environments, workshops, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers.

Why should I choose this course?

This course will expand your career options. You will be taught in our purpose-built hairdressing salons by experienced staff from the hairdressing industry. You'll get the chance to train in our commercial training salon and to gain work experience with our partner hairdressers. This will give you the best chance of future employment.

  • Salon supervisor/manager 
  • Trainer 
  • Manufacturer's technician or sales representative

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following: 

  • Industry experience (employers' references will be required) 
  • SVQ level 3 Hairdressing or 
  • SCQF level 6 Hairdressing or 
  • Appropriate NQ Hairdressing units 
  • NPA in Technical Skills and Creative Hairdressing 
  • A minimum of 1 Higher preferred - Skills test for all candidates at interview Acceptance may depend on interview.

What are the interview arrangements?

Interview on campus with lecturing team. Qualifications, reference and a practical skills test.
