SVQ LEVEL 3 HAIRDRESSING

Intro to the course:

This course is for those who have completed SVQ level 2 or SCQF level 5 hairdressing or those who already have some skills and experience of hairdressing. It will refine your skills, and knowledge. It can lead to HNC study or an entry-level position/apprenticeship in the industry. Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques, creatively colour hair using advanced techniques, colour correction services, creatively set and dressing advanced techniques, consult, plan and assess.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone with qualifications in SVQ level 2 or SCQF level 5 hairdressing  who want to progress to the next creative level in hairdressing.

What will I study?

You'll learn hairdressing skills for fashion. The course covers:

• creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques, 
• creatively colour hair using advanced techniques
• colour correction services
• creatively set and dressing advanced techniques
• consult, plan and assess

Optional units include:

• provide hair smoothing treatments 
• artistic design in hair cutting and styling
• artistic design in colouring

Work placement is undertaken within the course.

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments and a portfolio evidence. Open and closed book assessments. Work experience.

Why should I choose this course?

This course builds on your skills and knowledge to progress your career in hairdressing. You'll be taught in our purpose-built hairdressing salon by industry-experienced staff. You'll get the chance to work in our commercial training salon and to gain work experience with our partner hairdressers such as Ellisons Hair and Beauty, Wella and Capital Hair and Beauty. This will give you the best chance of progress into higher-level study or an entry-level position in the industry.

This course leads to work as a hairstylist in a salon.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following: 

• SCQF level 5 Hairdressing or SVQ level 2 Hairdressing 
• NPA Hairdressing Technical Skills level 5 
• relevant industry experience 
• skills test for all candidates at interview 
• Acceptance may depend on interview.

What are the interview arrangements?

Interview on campus with lecturing team, qualifications, reference and skills test.
