A career in health, social care and nursing is varied and exciting, with many roles available throughout the industry. Salaries for nurses average £33,384, with many opportunities to specialise or progress in your career.
Within this industry you would care for people who are sick, injured or disabled and support them and their families when they are anxious and upset.
You'd work with doctors and other professionals to give the patients practical medical and social care. You'd respond sensitively to the person's needs so they feel safe and looked after.
Most jobs are in the National Health Service (NHS) though you could also work at private hospitals or nursing homes, schools, colleges or for the prison service, the Armed Forces or in industry.
You can work in a variety of settings in jobs such as Nurse, Social Care Assistant, Social Worker, Healthcare Support Worker, Carer and Midwife.
You’ll learn through work placement, groupwork, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers.
You’ll be taught by experienced staff, including registered midwives and nurses. You’ll have the chance of work experience with organisations such as NHS Lanarkshire, Sense Scotland, Capability Scotland and South Lanarkshire Council.
