Intro to the course:

The HNC Social Science contains a variety of subjects designed to give you the underpinning knowledge across the primary areas of social science and society. 

Through innovative and forward thinking techniques, your lecturing team will support you in your learning and help you in your academic journey. 

Subjects include Sociology, Politics and Research Methods. The team will also help you in developing your transferable and employability skills through critical analysis, communication and problem solving. 

We work closely with our university partners to ensure you receive a strong start for progressing further within Higher Education. External speakers and visits are organised as well as linking in with local organisation and field experts. Previous students have progressed to HND Social Science at South Lanarkshire College, UWS, Glasgow Caledonian, Strathclyde University and also employment.

What are the entry requirements?

The minimum entry requirements: 

  • 2 Highers in a relevant subject. 
  • Successful interview / group activity

If you are unsuccessful in gaining a space on the course, we may offer a space on another course. 

What are the interview arrangements?

You will be asked to attend an interview with a course team member. This will give you information about the course, whilst also giving us insight into your suitability for the course. 

Fees, finance and funding

Fees for full time is £1285

This course is eligible for SAAS.

Other information:

Previous students have progressed into degrees in social science, politics, criminology and psychology. Learners have also gained employment within the police service and social work. 


Full time course: 2.5 days in college per week
