Intro to the course:

This HND Childhood Practice (Top up) course is for anyone currently holding a PDA Childhood Practice (level 8). 

In studying this course, you will complete the required units to gain the HND Childhood Practice qualification. The HND qualifications supports you in progressing from a practitioner role, to considering leadership and further professional development. 

Additionally, by developing your research and critical analysis skills, you will be able to consider the developments within the sector and how this will influence your practice. 

The HND can also support you in progressing within Higher Education with options of degree programs across various universities such as the University of Strathclyde and the University of the West of Scotland. 

The lecturing team will develop your professional practice skill set as well as support you in learning how to use policies, legalisation and processes to enhance your practice. 

There is an expectation for you to already be working in practice when you are on this course. If you are interested in this course, and not currently employed in the sector, please highlight this in your personal statement and it can be discussed further as there may be options for us to support you organising a placement.

What are the entry requirements?

The minimum entry requirements are: 

  • Completed PDA Childhood Practice and HNC Childhood Practice 
  • Successful interview
  • PVG completion
  • Personal statement detailing why you would like to do the course and why you are suitable. 
  • Letter of recommendation / Reference

if you are unsuccessful in gaining a place on the HND program, we may offer you a space on another course. 

What are the interview arrangements?

You will be invited to an interview with a member of the course team. This will take place on the college campus.

Fees for part time is £1285

Other information:

South Lanarkshire College strives to provide a positive and holistic student experience. With on site facilities including a nursery, hair salon, spa and barbers as well as catering facilities. 

The library and computer suite are available for students to access, with some late night opening. Additionally, the extended learning team can help with assessment support and study skills. 

Car parking is free on campus and the building is a short walk from the local bus station and town centre. 


Part time course: 2 evenings a week and 1 full day in college/ online plus placement
