South Lanarkshire College and partners leading the way with transformative Eco-Preneurship partnership
South Lanarkshire College (SLC) has announced its pride in partnering with the Scottish Government’s Entrepreneur in Residence programme to deliver the EcoPreneur Pathways project.
Through its EcoPreneur Pathways project, SLC will embed entrepreneurial skills within modern apprenticeship programmes, empowering apprentices with entrepreneurial mindsets and enabling them to thrive in emerging green industries.
Part of the Scottish Government’s Entrepreneurial Campus Blueprint, and delivered by Interface, this national initiative is designed to make entrepreneurship a core life skill across education and to prepare students for Scotland’s future economy.
The EcoPreneur Pathways project, in partnership with Ayrshire College and Dumfries & Galloway College, will support modern apprentices in the low carbon and net zero sectors, including mechanical engineering, joinery, plastering, and brickwork, and provide access to a proven ecosystem of entrepreneurial expertise.
College educators and staff will also receive training and professional development to upskill and equip them with the tools to foster initiative, resilience and opportunity recognition within apprenticeships.
The innovative EcoPreneur programme will be spearheaded by the newly appointed Entrepreneur in Residence, Wendy White-Finnigan, Enterprise Fellow at the Hunter Centre at Strathclyde University, who will work with SLC and partners to embed entrepreneurship and net zero mindsets across the curriculum.
Shona Pettigrew, Vice Principal Student Experience and Innovation, said:
“We are delighted that South Lanarkshire College is leading the way in embedding eco-preneurial and entrepreneurial skills across our college curriculum, ensuring that SLC modern apprentices are not only gaining the skills to succeed in the modern and green industries of the future, but also have the skills and knowledge to start their own businesses.
The EcoPreneur Pathways project will ensure that South Lanarkshire College staff and lecturers are equipped with the best tools available to continue in our delivery of innovative and transformative educational programmes.
As Scotland’s top performing college for full time FE students, South Lanarkshire College will continue to make innovative strides to deliver top quality teaching and opportunities for all our students.”
