Languages and Maths

Why should I study a language or Maths?

Studying a language or maths can help with your career or progression to college or university study. A language will help you with general reading, writing and speaking.

Our British Sign Language (BSL) or Spanish courses can help you progress to degree-level language courses.

Our ESOL course will give you more chance of progressing to a full-time college course, degree-level study or employment.

What jobs can I get in this area?

Most of our language courses are designed to help you read, write and speak in a particular language. It could lead to work in tourism, and with further study, teaching, translating or interpreting.

Our maths courses are designed to provide you with the knowledge and qualifications for progression to further study or employment.

How are the courses taught?

Our language courses are mostly taught part-time on campus. The courses entail speaking, reading and writing practice.

Pegah Amiri - Level 5 ESOL

“Studying an ESOL course didn’t only improve my English, but it also motivated me to think more about what I wanted to do next, which I discovered was Civil Engineering. The ESOL course gave me the confidence to apply to university.  I now have a conditional offer of a place at Heriot Watt and an unconditional place at The University of Strathclyde.  I am very excited for my future.”
