SVQ LEVEL 2 BARBERING

Intro to the course:

This 24-week course is for beginners with no experience of barbering or hairdressing. The course covers all basic cutting, barbering and styling techniques suitable and in line within current barbering industry standards. The course includes cut and clipper hair using barbering techniques, creating basic outlines and detailing in hair, facial haircutting and developing strong client-communication skills.

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to start a career as a barber. It will suit school leavers or those looking to change career to offer progression into the industry.

What will I study?

Beginners course covering all basic cutting, barbering and styling techniques to industry standard. The course includes:

• Cut and clipper hair using barbering techniques
• Cut facial hair
• Creating basic outlines and detailing in hair
• Dry style and finish hair using barbering techniques
• Shampoo condition and treat the hair and scalp
• Consult, Assess, Plan and Prepare for Barbering services
• Implement and maintain safe, hygienic and effective working practices
• Provide Non-strip Waxing Treatments for the Nostrils, Ears and Eyebrow Hair
• Assist with Shaving Services

 You'll learn through workshops, demonstrations,  groupwork, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers. The course includes, realistic working environments where you will provide barbering services to clients

Next step course options

• SVQ Level 3 in Barbering 
• Apprenticeship or mentoring scheme within a barber salon

How will I be assessed?

Practical assessments under observation and a portfolio evidence. SQA online (SOLAR) assessments.

• Reference
• SVQ level 1 or SCQF Level 4 Hair or Barbering qualification 
• Essay 
• Acceptance will require successful interview
• Skills test at interview

What are the interview arrangements?

Interview on campus with lecturing staff.
