DEMENTIA AWARENESS FOR THE SERVICE INDUSTRY

Intro to the course:

 At South Lanarkshire College we are excited to promote this course, aimed at  the service industry  and small businesses who may regularly come into contact with people living with dementia and their families.   The course will be led by a highly experienced  member of our Health and Social  Care lecturing team.  Topics covered will include   definitions of dementia, common, signs and symptoms and practical  information  and tips on how as a workplace /employee you can improve the quality  of  service delivery to people living  with dementia in your community.  On completion of the  course, businesses will be offered the option of one workplace visit to discuss suggestions on how small positive changes to environment may improve the quality of experience for your clients with dementia.    Following  the visit a “Dementia Friendly Space”  certificate from South Lanarkshire College  can be displayed in the workplace.  Participants  will receive a certificate on completion.

Next step course options

We have a number of other courses available in relation to health and wellbeing that may be of interest to employers.  For example Mental Health Awareness , Menopause  Awareness. How will I be assessed?

There is no specific  assessment, however  participants will have opportunity to practice and discuss techniques and will receive feedback throughout. 

Why should I choose this course?

Dementia is a challenging and isolating condition  for the  individuals affected, their families and carers.   In the Scottish government publication “Dementia in Scotland – Everyone’s Story” they mention the importance of ensuring and creating  inclusive environments for those in our communities living with Dementia.    If you are a business committed to  providing an inclusive  environment for individuals in their community  with Dementia then this  is the course for you.  On completion of the course there will be an optional offer of a workplace visit to discuss suggestions  of how small positive changes to the workplace environment can improve the experience for someone living with Dementia.    Following  the visit a “Dementia Friendly Space”  certificate from South Lanarkshire College  can be displayed in the workplace.

What are the interview arrangements?

No interview is required however  happy to discuss suitability as required.
