At South Lanarkshire College we are supporting Scottish Apprenticeship Week 2024, which runs from Monday 6 March until Friday 8 March.

With strong links to local firms providing career pathways for thousands of students over the years, at South Lanarkshire College we are certainly familiar with this year’s Scottish Apprenticeship Week theme 'Skills Generation’ theme.

Throughout the week, staff and students at the college will be sharing their stories, while our stakeholders and business partners, will offer insight into the benefits to employers of taking on apprentices and creating a new skills generation. We will also host an open event, to showcase our hairdressing Modern Apprenticeship students’ work and skills.

South Lanarkshire College Alternative Funding Advisor, Elise Bonini, is excited for the week ahead, she explains: “At South Lanarkshire College we are keen to highlight the value apprenticeships can bring, not only to the individual, but also to companies and the wider economy”.

Elise continues “we know there are many benefits to employers who decide to back talent by taking on an apprentice, including the chance to strengthen and upskill their existing workforce; the opportunity to increase productivity and the knock-on effect of helping to improve staff morale and service and product quality”.

“At South Lanarkshire College, we are incredibly lucky to have links with hundreds of employers, both through our curriculum sections and our Training and Employment Team, and Scottish Apprenticeship Week is a great platform for us to raise awareness of the wider benefits of the apprenticeship programme.”

Elise concludes “For employers, it can be a big step to take on an apprentice, but there is a great deal of support available, and we are working closely with business to make them aware of that support.  Apprentices can play a vital role in supporting businesses and the economy now and for the future.”
