Intro to the course:

This course will develop you to enter junior management within the hospitality & events industry or prepare you for further study at level 7. With a strong focus on enhancing specialist skills for work within hotels, bars, restaurants, and event organisations.  You will study subjects associated with management and leadership within this industry. 

We would welcome applicants whose first language is not English (minimum ESOL Intermediate level 2 or equivalent is advantageous)

Who is the course for?

This course will introduce you to hospitality, preparing you for further study or an entry-level position in the industry. Next step course options

This course will prepare you for a junior management role within the hotel, restaurant, or event industry. You can continue to progress your studies onto HNC within hospitality, events, business, or another related course.  

How will I be assessed?

This is a practical course taught within The Study Training Restaurant.  Many of the theory-based subjects are taught within an interactive classroom setting. You will plan and organise live events and enjoy collaborating with other courses within the college. 

A wide mix of assessment approaches are used including presentations, practical work, multiple-choice tests, short report writing, and observations are all part of the assessment process. 

On successful competition you will achieve a National Certificate Hospitality Operations at SCQF Level 6.

This is an excellent time to enter the hospitality sector as there are likely to be many opportunities ahead. This course will prepare you for an entry-level job within the sector, or further study. You'll get practical experience serving customers in our on-site commercial restaurant, The Study.

Lecturers have worked for Walt Disney World, Intercontinental Hotels, Malmaison, Hilton, and more amazing establishments across the world. You’ll be trained and driven to your full potential! 

Where can this course lead?

The hospitality industry is projected to continue to grow by 4% over the next ten years, which will mean a continued increase in job opportunities. This level 6 course will provide you with the enhanced skills and theoretical knowledge for various roles such within food and beverage, front office, events, sales and marketing, human resources or finance.  You’ll be urged to work part time alongside your studies and on completion can earn upwards of £27k in a fast progressive worldwide career.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following: 

  • two National 5 qualifications or above
  • equivalent recognised qualification 
  • hospitality & events at SCQF Level 5 or equivalent 
  • for adult returners work experience is acceptable 

What are the interview arrangements?

Offers made will be based on your application.  Those who do not meet the minimum entry requirements will be invited for an individual interview.
