Intro to the course:

This is a preparatory course to enable progression to further study in accounting and financial services.  You will learn practical skills and theory transferable to various roles. It is ideal for those who want to progress to NC or HNC study, or to apply for Association of Accounting Technician (AAT) professional body qualifications.  The course also prepares students for progression onto a Modern Apprenticeship programme in accounting or financial services.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to develop their career in accounting or financial services.

The course is aimed at students that have applied to study with us in August 2023.

What will I study?

This introductory course will provide you with an interesting insight into the role of an accounting professional.  You will learn about the foundations of double entry and how to record financial transactions manually .

You will study a range of topics such as:

  • understanding accounting terminology
  • basics of double entry
  • Sage Accounts
  • manual payroll
  • Sage Payroll
  • basics of costing
  • basics of financial reporting

The course also ensures a good foundation in core skills:

  • working with others
  • numeracy

How will I be assessed?

The course will not feature any assessments, instead, your progress will be measured through individual case studies and collaborative peer learning.   This is an exciting introduction to the world of accounts and bookkeeping  and can allow you to progress onto further training andcourses.

You will be invited to attend an informal information and induction session.  No formal interview is required.
