Intro to the course:

This course is for students who have completed SCQF Level 6 makeup or other industry relevant course. It will refine the skills needed in the make-up artistry industry including essential make up skills, specialised makeup effects, sculpting and flat moulding, ageing skills, make-up and hairstyling for a total look, 20th century hair & make-up and body painting.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to start a career in make-up artistry. It will suit school leavers with at least one higher or those looking to change career or progress into the industry.

What will I study?

You'll develop knowledge and skills in all aspects of make-up artistry and develop skills in period and 20th century hairstyling and make-up, ageing, character, specialised make-up effects, life casting and mould making, and sculpting and flat mould production for prosthetic makeup looks. You'll learn through workshops, group work, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers.

Where can this course lead?

This course leads to employment as a makeup artist in television, theatre and film.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following: 

  • previous experience in a hairdressing, make-up, beauty or art background 
  • candidates are required to gain work experience outwith college hours 
  • acceptance on interview

Entry to year 1: 

  • SCQF level 6 Media Make-up, SCQF level 6 Hairdressing, SVQ level 3 Hairdressing or Beauty or relevant industry experience
  • direct entry candidates should have a minimum of one Higher 

Entry to year 2: 

  • HND year one Make-up Artistry

Interview on campus with lecturing team,  qualifications and reference.
