Who is the course for?
This course is ideal for anyone wanting to develop a career in childhood practice. It will suit those in employment who want to improve their career prospects, and those wanting to start their own business.What will I study?
You'll develop your skills as a childhood practitioner, and learn about current research and Scottish law and policy relating to children and families. The Scottish Government commitment to provide at least 1,140 hours of early learning and childcare to every child from the age of three has led to opportunities in the sector. This course will teach essential skills and knowledge to enable you to progress to third year entry to a university degree or into employment in the industry. You'll be taught by lecturers with direct experience, and do a work placement with private and council childcare providers.Where can this course lead?
This course leads to work as a lead early years practitioner and employment in the voluntary, private or local authority sectors. Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) is necessary.What are the entry requirements?
Entry to this course is subject to one or more of the following:- HNC Childhood Practice or equivalent SVQ level 3 which is acceptable for Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration
- Relevant childcare experience
- Disclosure Scotland PVG check

Other information:
Students may eligible to apply for SAAS funding.If studying in the evening Part time SAAS funding will not fully cover the course. Any deficit in the course fees must be paid to the college by the student. Cost of the course will be available on the college portal and discussed at interview.
Applicants applying with a relevant SVQ 3 will have a credit deficit which will need to be gained before HND award can be achieved. Staff will discuss this at interview. Any credit deficit must be paid for by the applicant.
