BPEC PLUMBING GAS INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE

Intro to the course:

Core units include: 

  • gas safety legislation 
  • gas emergency actions and procedures
  • characteristics of combustion 
  • ventilation Installation of pipework and fittings 
  • tightness testing and purging of domestic sized 
  • NG installations 
  • checking and/or setting meter regulators Identification of unsafe situations and use of emergency notices of warning labels 
  • the operation of and positioning of emergency isolation controls and valves 
  • checking and setting of appliance burner burner pressures and gas rates 
  • the operation and checking of appliance gas safety devices and controls 
  • flueing standards 
  • flue testing Installation of open, balanced and fan assisted flue assemblies 
  • re-establish existing gas supply and relight appliances 
  • additional appliances can include boilers, fires, cookers and water heaters 

During the course candidates will be required to carry out on the job training to build up a portfolio of evidence with a Gas Safe registered company.

Assessment of this award will be ongoing through a combination of practical work and knowledge assessments.

What are the entry requirements?

  • You Must have Secured a Work placement with a gas safe registered engineer is mandatory
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Plumbing would be an advantage 
  • mechanical engineering background 
  • driving licence would be an advantage 
  • successful completion of entrance exam 
  • this course is subject to PVG vetting 
  • successful performance at interview

What are the interview arrangements?

There will be an aptitude test and interviews with staff
