Intro to the course:

This course will help you develop a career as a site manager or supervisor in the construction trade. It will teach you main aspects of the trade including site surveying, project work, leading a team and site administration. The course is designed for those with some experience in the industry who are looking to upskill, or for students who have completed level 6.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to start a career in construction management. It will suit school leavers or those looking to change career or progress into the industry.

What will I study?

You'll learn about the roles, responsibilities and duties of construction management trainees in the building industry. You'll gain the skills and knowledge for employment in the built environment sector and for progressing to higher education in for example in engineering or professional qualification.

How will I be assessed?

Ongoing assessment open- and closed-book assessments. End-of-year graded unit provides final grade.

Why should I choose this course?

With a healthy construction industry, there's a continuing need for skilled construction workers. This course will help you develop a career in the industry at Management level. We have close links with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), CIOB, Glasgow City Building, South Lanarkshire Council and Mears which offer students site visits, industry links and work placements. You'll learn in the college construction facilities, and be taught by staff with industry experience in construction and surveying. They'll give you the skills and knowledge you need to move on to a specialist course or employment/an apprenticeship in the construction. industry.

Where can this course lead?

This course leads to supervisory or management positions in the construction industry, and also to degree-level programmes.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following: 

  • one Higher Grade with relevant Standard Grades or National 5 awards or 
  • at least 12 relevant SQA National Qualification Units at suitable level 
  • relevant work experience or qualifications
  • Acceptance may depend on interview
