This introductory course is a starting point for a future career in law, criminology, the Police or the uniformed public services. You will learn practical skills and theory transferable to various roles. It is ideal for those who want to progress to HNC study or to apply to the uniformed public services, or for an entry-level position in law and criminology.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to develop their career in legal services or the Police Service and uniformed services. It will suit school leavers or those looking to change career or progress into the industry.

What will I study?

You will study family law, Scots Law, social science  and police studies. 

The course will have lots of practical elements to prepare you for a career in the emergency services industry.

You will visit a range of Police and other emergency services locations such as: Police Scotland; Fire and Rescue Centre; courts; Parliament and hear guest speakers from different legal and uniformed services backgrounds.  You will be involved in industry set challenges and projects to enhance your learning experience and links with these professional bodies and emergency services.

  • one relevant National Qualifications Group Award at SCQF level 4 or
  • relevant Nat 4 Qualifications 2 or Standard Grade passes or
  • uniformed services qualification or
  • equivalent recognised qualification  or
  • relevant work experience 

What are the interview arrangements?

You will be invited to an informal information and induction session.
