Part-qualified and newly qualified Accountants are Scotland's most sought-after employees, according to research from Hays in 2020. The average salary for an Accountant in Scotland is £37,500. This course follows from the HNC, and is the next step towards studying our popular BA Accounting Degree run in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland, and a future career in Accounting or Finance.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to develop a career in Accountancy. It will suit school leavers or those looking to change career or progress into the industry.

What will I study?

You'll learn the skills for working in an Accounting environment or progressing to the BAcc Accounting. You'll learn about financial accounting and recording financial information. This course is recognised by professional Accounting bodies, such as the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). You'll learn through work placement, group work, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers.

  • Third year entry to the BAcc Accounting Degree at South Lanarkshire College in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland 
  • Third year entry into an Accounting Degree at another Scottish University

You can study here up to degree-level under our arrangement with the University of the West of Scotland. This HND is a popular route to degree-level study. You'll be taught by industry experts who are qualified Chartered Accountants. You'll gain experience through work placement, visits to local accounting firms and a range of guest speakers.

This course is aimed at those wishing to gain employment, or who are currently employed, in roles such as Accounts Assistant, Trainee Accountant, Finance Assistant, Book-Keeper or Financial Administrator.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following: 

  • 1 Higher; OR
  • Two National 5 Qualifications that should include English and Maths; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications; OR
  • Relevant work experience

What are the interview arrangements?

No formal interview, students will be invited to attend an informal information/enrolment session.
