Part-qualified and newly qualified accountants are Scotland's most sought-after employees, according to research from Hays in 2020. The average salary for an accountant in Scotland is £37,500. This course offers a direct route to a degree programme taught in our campus in partnership with the University of the West of Scotland. This course gives you skills, theory and an insight into the industry, and sets you on the path to a career in accounting and finance.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to develop their career in accountancy. It will suit school leavers or those looking to change career or progress into the industry.

What will I study?

You'll gain the skills and knowledge for working within an accounting environment or progressing to HND Accounting. This course is recognised by professional accounting bodies, such as Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). You'll learn through work placement, group work, lectures, industry visits and a variety of guest speakers.

Next step course options

HND Accounting (year 2) or other HND programme (year 1). Universities recognise the HNC Award for direct entry into first or second year accounting degrees

How will I be assessed?

SQA secure assessments.

Why should I choose this course?

There is  a demand for accountants in many different sectors, and this course will help you on your way towards a professional qualification. You can study here up to degree-level under our arrangement with the University of the West of Scotland. You will be taught by industry experts sme of whom are qualified chartered accountants. You will gain experience through work placement, visits to local Accounting firms and a variety of guest speakers. We encourage you to apply early as places fill quickly.

Where can this course lead?

This general accounting award is for those wishing to gain employment, or who are currently employed, in roles such as accounts assistant, trainee accountant, finance assistant, book-keeper or financial administrator.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following: 

  • one Higher or
  • two National 5 Qualifications that should include English and Maths or
  • other equivalent qualifications or
  • relevant work experience

What are the interview arrangements?

No formal interview, students will be invited to an informal information/enrolment session.
