This course is ideal for anyone wanting to start a career in childcare. It will suit school leavers or those looking to change career or progress into the industry.

What will I study?

You'll learn how to work with children in different settings. The course covers the theory of childcare and links theory to practice. You'll learn through groupwork, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers.

How will I be assessed?

Closed- and open-book assessments, practical play activities.

Why should I choose this course?

The Scottish Government commitment to provide at least 1,140 hours of early learning and childcare to every child from the age of three has led to opportunities in the sector. This course will teach skills and knowledge for progressing on to higher-level study or into entry-level employment. You'll be taught by lecturers with direct experience, and may do a work placement to gain experience of nurseries, schools and other early years settings.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following:

  • National 5 childcare award
  • Four National 5 units
  • Suitable work experience in childcare is preferred but not essential Acceptance may depend on interview.

Interview with professional reference, essay , criminal conviction form and qualifications discussed.
