This course will provide you with a specialist qualification if you want to work with children or adults who have additional support needs. 

It is for those who have studied a similar (Additional Supports Needs, Health Care Practice, Childhood Practice and Social Services) HNC course and further develops what you have already learned at HNC level.

Who is the course for?

This course is ideal for anyone wanting to move to a more senior or managerial role within their field, or to progress to higher education.

What will I study?

You'll learn skills for working with those with additional support needs (ASN).You'll learn through groupwork, lectures, industry visits and guest speakers.

How will I be assessed?

Closed and open-book assessments, practical assessment on placement, presentations, academic posters.

Why should I choose this course?

This advanced-level qualification will enhance and refine your skills, knowledge and understanding of disabilities and supporting individuals.It leads directly to higher-level study or employment. You'll be taught by experienced lecturers, who have worked in additional support and get the chance of work experience with local schools and other South Lanarkshire Council services, and disability organisations such as Autism Scotland and Sense Scotland.

This course may improve career prospects for those working within a care environment. Career progression depends on a satisfactory Disclosure Scotland PVG check.

What are the entry requirements?

One or more of the following:

  • HNC Health Care Practice
  • HNC Social Services and Care
  • HNC Early Education and Childcare/Childhood Practice
  • Disclosure Scotland PVG check
  • Satisfactory reference
  • Satisfactory interview Acceptance may depend on interview.

What are the interview arrangements?

One-to-one interview, written task and professional reference, PVG check.

Erika decided to take further steps towards her childhood dream of working with people in need by starting our HNC Additional Support Needs course. With her experience doing healthcare courses at South Lanarkshire College, she is able to work for the NHS as a clinical worker.
